Etihad Cargo Announces Freight Link to Guangzhou

United Arab Emirates flag-carrier Etihad Airways could be lining up a bid for a minority stake in struggling Jet Airways of India, it has been reported locally. Etihad has pursued a policy of acquisition in 2012, having taken stakes in Air Seychelles, Virgin Australia, Aer Lingus and airberlin. Any deal for the Indian carrier, which is deeply in debt, would be the first since the county passed legislation in September allowing foreign airlines to buy stakes in domestic operators.

Upswing in cargo is a positive sign, says IATA

IATA traffic results for November 2012 show an upswing in both passenger and airfreight demand. Air travel was 4.6 per cent higher than November 2011, up on the October result of 2.9 per cent. Airfreight volumes edged up 1.6 per cent over the same period after declining 2.6 per cent in October, year to year. “November brought some positive signs for air transport demand – particularly for air cargo,” says Tony Tyler, director general.

Lufthansa Cargo sharply scaled back capacity in 2012. GREEN shoots of economic recovery in key airfreight markets are on the horizon, forecasts one of the world’s leading carriers. Although Lufthansa Cargo (LC) transported 1.7 million tonnes of freight and mail last year – an 8.5 per cent drop compared with 2011 – its chairman and chief executive officer Karl Ulrich Garnadt, is positive about the airline’s effectiveness in the New Year.

THAI Cargo celebrates Formula 1 venture

THAI Cargo transported Red Bull Racing team's F1 car from Bangkok (Thailand) to Frankfurt (Germany). THAI Airways International’s (THAI) freight division successfully transported a Formula1 car for the Red Bull Racing team, following the 2012 Race of Champions annual event, held in Bangkok (Thailand). THAI Cargo transported the F1 vehicle on board flight TG890 from Bangkok to Frankfurt (Germany).
